Toronto- Former Derg government senior officials,who were imprisoned for over two decades and released recently, held discussion with prime minister Hailemariam Desalegne this past week, reported Wazema radio.
Focus of the discussion was on “sew le sew”, not to be confused with a German non-governmental organization operating in Ethiopia, association’s application for a piece of land in the capital for purpose of constructing a building to help members of the association, the report added. The association is chaired by Fikreselassie Wogderes,prime minister under military Derg government of colonel Mengistu Hailemariam and former member of Ethiopian Air Force.
However, Wazema says prime minister Hailemariam Desalagne discussed other issues of national importance with the former officials but he is said to have advised them not to release contents of the discussion for media consumption and said that he will make it public on his own when the time comes for it.
Wazema hinted that the former officials,with invitation from prime minister Hailemariam Desalenge, offered advise on current situation of the country and on the way forward. Colonel Fesseha Desta,published autobigraphy entitled “Abyotuna Tiztaye” – could translate to my memory of the revolution, is said to have commended the government in terms of infrastructure development but advised the government to work on national unity.
No other current government official was in attendance during the discussion between Prime minister Hailemariam Desalegne and former Derg officials, according to Wazema.
However, from the report, it is former Derg officials who lodged a request to meet with the current prime minster regarding their application for a plot of land in Addis Ababa for their “sew le sew” association. The prime minister responded positively within a short period of time and met with them. Fikreselassie Wogderes is, Wazema report added, said to be surprised with the positive response and well mannered reception from the prime minister’s office.
