Arbegnoch Ginbot 7 movement, one of Ethiopia’s largest opposition parties, held a massive open air meeting in Debremarkos, in Amhara regional state. The event drew thousands of supporters and members of the party from the city.
Leaders of the party, including Professor Berhanu Nega who is former economics instructor at Bucknell University in the United States, and Andargachew Tsige, secretary, have attended the meeting.
“We need to maintain the peace of the country for which our compatriots shed their blood and died and pass it to our children and grand children. If we fail to do that, it amounts to killing our compatriots again,” said Dr. Berhanu Nega as reported by AMMA, Amhara Regional State media.
Andargachew Tsige on his part said that his party will work to ensure that the people are source of power.
Chairman and secretary of the party were included in two important Commissions established by the Federal Parliament; Identity and Boundary Commission, and National Reconciliation Commission.
The two leaders reportedly called up on supporters and members of the party present at Debremarkos rally to support the works of the two commissions in the interests of peace in the country which they described as a matter of survival.
