Ana Gomes, “Socialist Member of the European Parliament,” is visiting Ethiopia. She received a warm reception up on arrival at Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa.
Berhanu Nega, Chairman of Ginbot 7 ,one of Ethiopia’s biggest opposition party, showed up at Bole International Airport to receive her.
Her arrival at bole international airport was covered by state media, ENA, and she is cited as saying that she admires the change in Ethiopia.
She was a member of European Union Observer during the 2005 election in Ethiopia. At the time she condemned the killings of over 200 civilians in Addis Ababa following dispute over rigged election result.
Since then, Ana Gomes had been adding voice in the struggle for democracy and press freedom in Ethiopia. For that reason she is, it is noticeable, popular among a considerable number of politicized Ethiopians that she is even given an Ethiopian name – Hanna Gobeze.
