Adama Industrial Park, located in the city of Adama (Nazret) about 100 kilometers to the south-east of the capital Addis Ababa, is officially inaugurated today. The location has proximity to the Ethio-Djibouti railway line.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Oromo regional state president Lemma Megersa, Amhara Regional state president Gedu Andarchachew, ODP office Head Adanech Abebe and Arkebe Ukbay, top government official who was in charge of Industrail Parks development attended the inauguration ceremony.
The construction of it, which was started about two years ago, took over $140 million US and what is inaugurated is just he first phase, according to a report by Fana Broadcasting.
It is constructed on 102 hectares of land which was previously owned by farmers. “Government will ensure that peasants who gave up their land for the construction of the park are beneficiaries of the development [program],” Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said during the inauguration ceremony, as cited by Fana Broadcasting Corporation (FBC).
The project is part of the effort to make Ethiopia the leading manufacturing hub in the continent of Africa.
Apart from their contributions to job creation for the youth, industrial parks are essential for technology transfer, PM said in his speech at the inaugural ceremony.
