(borkena)At least nine people have died of a disease which has similar symptoms with malaria over the last few days in Wolaita Zone Offa district, ENA reported citing District Health Officer.
In mid-August, a similar outbreak has killed 16 people in the district, according to Addisu Wordku, head at woreda health office.
Number of Patients with symptoms like high fever, headaches, joint pain, yellowing of the eyes and nose bleeding, have increased in a health center over the last weeks.
Health professional think that the symptoms are related to malaria, and chemical spray is done to halt the outbreak, said Addisu.
Desalegn Fanata, Zonal health office head said that health professionals are sent to the area to examine the type of the diseases; “we found that the symptoms are like that of yellow fever,” he added.
Diseases samples are sent to Ethiopian Public Health Institution for further examination, said Desalegn.
Since the number of patients is increased, attention is given to prevent it from spreading into other areas, he added.
The community has called for the prevention of the disease by using the mosquito net and urges the local health authority to investigate.
He also urged the local community to prevent the diseases by using a mosquito net and visit health centers whenever the above symptoms are experienced.
According to a report a committee is formed to control the disease and provide the necessary materials.
