The Federal Police Commission says that it has arrested criminals who were dressed in police uniform to pretend as police officers.
General Endashaw Tassew, Federal Police Commissioner, says that the police commission has learned that there are individuals who use police uniforms to commit a crime in different places.
Some members of the Federal Police were found to be part of the crime and they are arrested, according to the commissioner, as reported by government affiliated FBC. Their numbers and identities are not revealed in the report.
In addition to working with some corrupt elements of the force to get uniforms, criminals are also reportedly accessing it from neighboring countries with similar uniforms to that of Ethiopian police force.
In a related development, Addis Ababa Police Commission fired more than 184 policemen on grounds of involvement in criminal activity and breach of ethical codes.
The Commission says involvement of members of the police force was established based on tips from the public and other stake holders, and a robust performance evaluation launched at all levels of the Commission’s structure.
Police members suspected of involvement in crime are in custody and an investigation is going on, according to FBC report.
