Dawud Ibsa led faction of Oromo Liberation Front (OLF), a militant ethno-radical political organization now operating mostly in the western parts of Ethiopia, is calling for Ethiopian government to stop war and resume “peace talk.”

It did so in a statement issued yesterday as Ethiopian Christians were celebrating Orthodox Christmas.

OLF accuses the ruling coalition, Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF), of not wanting to change its “anti-democratic” behavior.

It also accuses the ruling party for causing what it called obstacles since the organization (under Dawud Ibsa) returned to Ethiopia, which was in September 2018.

The organization called for Oromo community, which is said to be the largest “ethnic” group in the country, to put pressure on the government- apparently to end what government calls campaign to restore peace and order in the region.

What Dawud Ibsa led OLF faction wants now is talk with government in the presence of a third party. The organization rejects Ethiopian Defense force as the ruling party’s force and wants to include its forces in country’s defense force.

Politicized Ethiopians have been raising eyebrow on Ethiopian government for letting the radical opposition group to be treated in a special way.

Dawud Ibsa led faction of OLF is the only armed opposition group in the country with offices in the capital Addis Ababa.

Some notable Oromo activists reject that OLF in its entirely claiming that the organization does not exist any longer.

The armed group was essentially acting like a de facto government in Western Wollega and dozens of civilians were killed in the past few months in the region which gave rise to a protest against government for failing to protect the safety and security of citizens.

Last month, government resorted to the task to enforcing law and order in the region when it deployed defense force in the region.

Today, government says that it has arrested 171 suspects linked to the violence in the region and Benishangul region.
