General Kinfe Dagnaw, former director of state owned METEC business empire, appeared in a Federal court in the capital Addis Ababa today in connection with corruption charges.
His brother Isayas Dagnaw, who was a senior management in the state owned Ethio-telecom until he was sacked in April of this year, has also appeared in court along with his brother.
They both asked for public defense lawyer claiming that they can not afford to pay on their own.
General Kinfe Dagnaw was captured yesterday in Humera while attempting to flee to Sudan. He is implicated in embezzlement of public funds and illegal procurement worth well over US$ 2 billion.
He was reportedly captured by Tigray region special forces and handed over to Federal law enforcement authorities who brought him to the capital Addis Ababa in a military helicopter the same day.
