A press statement from the office of the Prime Minister today says that the prime minister has completed discussion with high ranking military officers regarding reforms in the defense force.
It did not mention as to how long the discussion was going on.
Military discipline and modernization of the army were among key points of discussion, based on the press statement from the PMO.
The prime minister, who is also Commander in-Chief of the Army, raised the incident where a group of military officers illegally, and against military discipline, marched to the office of the prime minister last month on alleged grounds of demanding to meet the prime minister to discuss benefits, salary and other administrative matters in the defense force.
Military leadership skills, military command implementation processes and appropriate use of power, as measures of military excellence, are also discussed according to the source.
The prime minister underscored, as pointed out in the statement, the importance of loyalty and respect to the constitution and to the Ethiopian people during the discussion.
The press statement also mentioned that reforms have been underway in the last seven months in the areas of legal framework, structure, implementation capacity and armament.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s administration is working on revision of military operations guideline in a way to put in place strong assignment and control system.
