Fitsum Aregaa has been serving as Chief of Staff in the Office of the Prime Minister for several months now. He announced that he is leaving the office to serve government in another capacity.
I wanted to announce that I will be moving back to Ethiopian Investment Commission—as a Commissioner. I have enjoyed my time immensely as a Chief of Staff serving a historic Prime Minister who will no doubt transform the country for the better. #Ethiopia

He tweeted yesterday that he will be working as a Commissioner for the Investment Commission.
Who is taking over Fitsum’s Position?
Shimeles Abdissa is the new Chief of Staff in the Office of the Prime Minister. He is one of the executive committee of Oromo Democratic Party (ODP).
As per the reform to the Chief of Staff position, he will be overseeing Press Secretariat Office, which will carry out the functions of former Government Communications Affairs Ministry, Competence and Policy Evaluation Office and Internal Security Affairs Advisory office, says the report by Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC).
Shimeles has master’s degree from Addis Ababa University in Human Rights and Post Graduate degree in political philosophy from University of South Africa (UNISA), added the report by EBC.
Press Secretary Office
The Prime Minister has picked Billene Seyoum as his press secretary in what seem to be a show of commitment to continue appointing more women to government positions.
Billene seem to be happy with the appointment and with the response she got from Ethiopians. She tweeted the following yesterday:
I am beyond overwhelmed by the positive responses and well wishes received in my appointment as FDRE PMO Press Secretary. It is an honor & privilege bestowed upon me to serve this country. I am truly humbled & ready to give you my best in this role. 🙏🏾 #Ethiopia
