Ethiopia named Ambassador Taye Atske Selassie as Ethiopian envoy to the United Nations, according to government media report today. He will be replacing a long time Ethiopian Ambassador to the United Nations, Tekeka Alemu.
Taye has experience in the world of diplomacy. In his latest role, he served as Ethiopian Ambassador to Egypt for about a year and a half now.
He thinks that the current relation between Ethiopia and Egypt is in good condition.
Egypt Independent cited him as saying “Egypt and Ethiopia are enjoying a great period in cooperation, particularly concerning talks on Ethiopia’s ambitious Grand Renaissance Dam (GERD) project, which Egypt feared would threaten its water flow from the Nile.”
Taye also stated that Ethiopia understands the importance of Nile River to Egypt and that a joint technique committee is established to identify remaining works in connection with Ethiopian Grand Renaissance Dam, as per a report by FBC.
He is expected to complete his stay in Egypt by the end of this month and move to New York for his new role as Ethiopian envoy in the United Nations.
