In a two minute speech that appeared to be written in Tigrigna influenced Amharic during a concert at the Millennium Hall in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, Eritrean president Isayas Afeworki told 25,000 crowd packed in the hall “we allow no one to disrupt our [Eritrea and Ethiopia] love” to the cheer of the crowed.

Isayas also conveyed “greetings and message of love” of the Eritrean people. “Having defeated,” added Isayas, “efforts to spread hate and vengeance, we are determined to cooperate for peace, development and in other fronts, and march forward together.”

What seems to be recognition for the loss during the two decades stalemate surfaced from the presidents’ speech when he said ” we will work together to compensate the loss and achieve great things in the years to come”

A diplomatic tie is restored between the two countries and Eritrean embassy is reopening in Addis Ababa this week. Ethiopian Airlines is resuming flights to Asmara as of July 18 and direct telephone line between the two countries is reactivated and the Eritrean president was given a warm welcome when he arrived for a three days working visit in Ethiopia – all of which were unthinkable a few months ago.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, who is reportedly congratulated by French president Emmanuel Macron this week for achieving peace with Eritrea, on his part, told the crowd at the Millennium Hall today that “Ethiopian and Eritrean peace and reconciliation will remain a lesson for all of us.”

In what seem to be a hint that he is aware of plots of assassination, he said that “it is not possible to obstruct change by killing someone. Another person will fill in.”

Yesterday, Abiy called up on forces whom he say are engaged in trying to subvert change that is coming to Ethiopia when he made a speech in a welcome event for the Eritrean president in Hawassa.

The event, which is presumed to be initiated by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, was organized to herald peace between the two countries two decades after a deadly two years war in which more than 80,000 soldiers were killed from both sides. The concert was televised live for Ethiopians by different government owned and private media outlet.
