A week after failure of another round of tripartite meeting over the grand dam project, the talks resumed today at the intercontinental hotel in Addis Ababa, announced the ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia.
Ministers of foreign affairs from Egypt,Ethiopia and Sudan are in attendance. Authorities from water and natural resources ministries and other stake holders are also attending the meeting.
The three countries have hired private firms from France to undertake impact assessment study on Ethiopia’s grand dam project over the Nile but the firms have not started the study. While Ethiopia is committed for equitable and fair use of the the Nile water, it is not accepting Egypt’s stand that the impact assessment study should be based on the 1959 agreement to which Ethiopia was not a party.
