A US based Ethiopian advocacy organization,Global Alliance for the rights of Ethiopians donated $US10,000 for Ethiopian refugees in Kenya on Tuesday this week.
Thousands of Ethiopians fled to Kenya from the border town of Moyale following an unprovoked massacre in the town on March 10 in which more than 10 were killed and nearly two dozens wounded.
The Command Post, a body that is presiding over the state of emergency in Ethiopia, issued a statement that the killing happened by “mistake,” an assertion that authorities in the town including the Mayor and in the region do not seem to accept. Taye Dendea, the regional department of justice spokesperson, was arrested after an interview with DW Amharic. He described the killing as a deliberate measure and a “war crime.”
A spokesperson for the World Food Program in Kenya confirmed last week that nearly 10,000 Ethiopians are displaced from Moyale Ethiopia.
Tamagne Beyene, Chairman of Global Alliance for Ethiopia, handed the cheque via United States Red Cross. The Chairman is cited as saying, by Ethiopian Satellite Television, that the Organization will continue to support the refugees.
The organization is known for supporting Ethiopians in trying times. The organization donated $25,000 to internally displaced Ethiopians after an allegedly orchestrated ethnic violence along the Ethio-Somali and Oromo regional state border led to the dislocation of more than half a million Ethiopians from the region.
