State Media, Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC) reported that about 172 households displaced from Ethio-Somali region are now settled in Bureau, a town in the northwestern outskirts of the capital, Addis Ababa. Burayu city administration provided them with housing, according to the source.
It is to be recalled that ethnic violence along Ethio-Somali and Oromo regional state in September 2017 left dozens of civilians dead and nearly half a million people were displaced, according to information released by the regional state at the time.
The resettlement of those displaced from Ethio-Somali region to Burayu, a trend that is likely to continue, stands in stark contrast to what the regime in power planned when it introduced the controversial Master Plan, which is what started anti-government protest two years ago. It was opposed on grounds that it dispossess land from small-scale peasants in the outskirts of Addis Ababa. Ironically, the Command Post, a body that is instituted to oversee the state of emergency in the country is meddling in administering land issue; it was surfaced during an emergency parliamentary meeting to approve the state of emergency legislation.
On the other hand, there are reports that government admitted thousands of Ethiopians from Moyale, Ethiopian border town, fled to Kenya following the death of more than 10 civilians over the weekend, which residents say was an unprovoked and intentional massacre of civilians.
Authorities in Oromo regional state rejected Command Post narrative on how the massacre unfolded in Moyale. The regime says that the massacre happened by “mistake.”
However, there are still killings in the town. Today, a graphic image showing a body of what is said to be a ten years old boy emerged in social media.
