Ethiopian Immigration officials deported yesterday William Davison, a British freelance journalist who has been working as a Bloomberg correspondent for seven years.
William says that his license to report for Bloomberg expired in September 2017 and was waiting for accreditation to report for The Guardian newspaper.
However, the Ethiopian government seems to have advised Graham Division to reapply for the accreditation from the UK.
In his facebook update from the UK, he wrote :
- “What my treatment demonstrates once again is a lack of appreciation of professional journalism and a failure of various government institutions and officials to follow established a procedure in anything like a transparent manner. As such, these are issues that are relevant not only to all journalists in Ethiopia, but for anybody interacting with the authorities, and indeed all Ethiopians.”
Apparently, he has been staying on a tourist visa since February mid-February 2018.
William added that he was not given any explanation for the decision from immigration.
In November 2017, Ethiopian Immigration authorities expelled French journalist, Rene Lefort, upon arriving at Bole International Airport. Upon arrival, his passport was first confiscated and told to fly back to Paris on the same day.
