Ethiopian Airlines announced that it is commencing a flight to Chicago as of June 2018. The airlines is intending to use Boeing 787 aircraft for the route.
When it happens, Chicago will be one of the four Ethiopian Airlines destinations in the United States.
Ethiopian has a direct flight to Washington DC and flights to Los Angeles and Newark, US’ busiest airport. Toronto is another North American destination with two weekly flights.
CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, Tewolde Gebremariam, hopes, as cited by Fana Broadcasting, that the flight to Chicago will help boost economic growth and “people to People relation” – a political phrase widely used by the ruling party in recent months.
The seventy years old Ethiopian Airlines is Africa’s largest carrier. It is poised to make gains from Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) which was signed by twenty-three African countries on the sidelines of the African Union meeting in Addis Ababa which was concluded on last week.
The Airlines has seen huge expansion over the past few years which required infrastructure development and huge, as per the authorities claim, borrowing from Chinese Banks.
Apart from infrastructure, there has been noticeable purchases of numerous latest Boeing carrier to meet service expansion needs.
Ethiopian has also expanded its domestic flights with the highest number of flights to Mekelle in northern Ethiopia.
