Residents of Wolkite in Guraghe region of Ethiopia reportedly took their anger against the ruling government to the streets. Ethiopian Satellite Television reported that the protest started out as a peaceful one but was later transformed into a violent when special forces began to arrest residents.

From ESAT’s report, the anti-government protest in Wolkite was triggered by news that the regime has transferred a hospital project to Tigray region of Ethiopia.

The report added that police fired tear gas. It is not, however, clear as to how many arrests were made.

Grenade attack in Metema

There is a reported grenade attack in Metema, a town in North Western Ethiopia bordering Sudan. The attack happened yesterday in the evening and the Target was a hotel that allegedly belongs to a Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) man. Two local authorities who were in the hotel at the time of the attack reportedly sustained wound and taken to Gonder hospital, according to ESAT. It is not clear if the injury is life-threatening or not.

In a related news, Amhara Mass Media Agency reported one hundred AK 47 and five machine guns hidden in an oil tanker truck were seized by the region’s security force. The agency added that police is investigating the matter.
