Victory Day commemorates Ethiopia’s victory over fascism

Ethiopia celebrated today the 76th anniversary of victory over fascist Italy. It was celebrated across the country.
In the capital Addis Ababa, it was celebrated at Dil Monument in Arat killo, which is erected in honour of Ethiopia’s victory over fascism.
In the five years of resistance against fascism between 1936 and 1941, nearly one million Ethiopians were killed. Facist Italy’s leader Benito Mussolini ordered the use of internationally banned Mustard Gas. Hundreds of thousands of Ethiopians were killed that way.
More than 30,000 Ethiopians were massacred in the capital Addis Ababa after freedom fighters threw hand grenade on General Graziani.
Invading Italian soldiers were blessed by The Vatican before they left for Ethiopia.
Ethiopia’s Patriarch Abune Petros, whose statue stands in the heart of city, was also brutally killed by fascists as a scare tactic.
The massacre never intimidated Ethiopians from fighting for the freedom of Ethiopia. Finally, the invading Fascist force was totally defeated.
Today’s celebration in Addis Ababa was attended by diplomats and ambassadors. Ethiopian Patriots were part of the ceremony wearing traditional Ethiopian warrior attire, military uniform from that era and their medals.
