The World Bank is lending Ethiopia US $645 million. The fund is to be used for different projects.

Inland port (dry port) expansion at Mojo, waste removal and clean drinking water in urban centers are some of the projects to be undertaken with the loan.

A report by Fana Broadcasting indicates that the bulk of the loan ($445 million) is allocated for clean water supply project while about 150 is to be spent on Inland port expansion project.

Ethiopia’s Finance and Economic development cooperation deputy minister,Admassu, and Carolyn Turk, World Bank’s Country Director for Ethiopia, Sudan and South Sudan, based in Addis Ababa, signed the agreement.

More than 115 Ethiopians were killed due to garbage dump landslide in Addis Ababa last month.

Despite chronic corruption and wide spread egregious human rights violations in Ethiopia, the world bank is still financially supporting the regime in Ethiopia.

More than 1000 people were reportedly killed in the year long anti-government protest and government recently extended state of emergency for four months.

Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International criticized Ethiopian government for killing civilians for taking part in anti-government protest.
