As delegates of four regional governors from Sudan concluded a two days conference in Mekelle on the “border” issues, residents in “West Tigary”, to use Fana Broadcasting’s description, demanded Hailemariam Desalegne that “his government” build roads and health centers for, apparently, “western Tigray” and Sudan.
Residents put forward their demands during a meeting with Hailemariam Desalenge in the town of Humera. In addition, residents demanded animal fattening project constructed in the be operational.
they also demanded government to take action on what they call “terrorists”, apparently a reference to Ethiopians in the region who are championing the cause that Wolqaite and Humera are not parts of Tigray and should be restored as part of Gonder the way it used to be.
Hailemariam reportedly responded positively and, on his part, called on ,according to Fana, residents to continue participation in the development and peace of the region.
In a related story, federal deputy prime minister and senior leader of the Amhara National Democratic Movement, member of the ruling coalition party in charge of governance in what is now called Amhara region, and his colleague Gedu Andargachew held discussion with residents of Gondar city. During the discussion, Wolqaite and Humera question was raised by participants. Demeke reportedly told residents that Federal government is working to resolve it in the interests of people from both regions, which does not seem to be the case.
Ethiopians are suspicious of Tigary authorities increased engagement with Sudan and the claim is regime in Ethiopia ceded a considerably big stretch of land to Sudan against the interest of Ethiopians.
