News of negotiation with TPLF unverified, untrue say Ethiopian Emergency Task Force Authorities

Ethiopian authorities on Monday dismissed reports of negotiation with the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) in Uganda.
The State of Emergency Fact Check that reports of negotiation between Ethiopian Authorities and TPLF in Uganda are untrue. “The state of emergency task force did not verify the news coverage in different media outlets that Ethiopian authorities and TPLF are negotiating in Uganda, and that it is wrong,” it said in a brief update on its social media page.
The update raised more questions as the task force did not unequivocally say that the information is false. What it said was it did not verify the information.
However, it said that the Federal government of Ethiopia is working hard to enforce the rule of law in the Tigray region of Ethiopia.
It also advised media outlets to verify information regarding the campaign to enforce rule of law from the task force. It was Aljazeera that covered the story.
Ambassador Redwan Hussein, the secretariat of the task force, had a briefing with international media on Monday. He “cautioned to not be hoodwinked by the propaganda of TPLF which have often been contradictory, emphasizing the need for context.”

Ethiopian state media reported on Monday that the Deputy Prime Minister, Demeke Mekonen, had a discussion with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni in Kampala. The latter confirmed the news in a Twitter message.
“I held discussions with the Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister, H.E. Demeke Mekonnen Hassen and his delegation at Gulu State Lodge,” he said.
According to Ethiopian state media, the purpose of Demeke’s visit to Uganda was to deliver a message from Abiy Ahmed. He reportedly discussed with President Museveni the effort of Abiy Ahmed’s government to work with the TPLF on the reform agenda in the past two years. He accused the TPLF of leading the country to chaos by organizing and financing extremist groups in the country.
President Museveni shared his remark on twitter. “Africa’s problem is that we never discuss ideology, focusing so much on diplomacy. I totally disagree with politics that focus on ethnic federalism. We must emphasise the issue of oneness and common interests because it is the only way we can prosper.”
The Deputy Prime Minister is also traveling to five other countries in the region including Kenya where he met with President Uhuru Kenyata in Nairobi.
Ethiopian Federal government is undertaking what it calls “law enforcement operation” against TPLF leadership in the Tigray region of Ethiopia following an attack on the northern command of the Ethiopian Defense Forces on November 4.
