Pharmaceuticals Fund and Supply Agency Director resigned. It is the minister of Ministry of Health that disclosed the resignation of Ato Meskele Lera, as reported by government newspaper Addis Zemen. The agency has been under fire for alleged overspending.
The was a report in early January 2017 regarding question during parliamentary session related to overspending by the agency.
It appears that the minister already proposed nomination of new director and it is prime minister Hailemariam Desalegne who is supposed to approve the nomination,according to the report.
The agency purchased 12 billion Birr worth of medicines and medical products in three years between 2012 and 2015. Claim is that the way the purchases were made were vulnerable to corruption.
