Addis Ababa bound Ethiopian Airlines plane experienced runway accident at Juba Airport in South Sudan.
According to Aviation Safety Network report on Tuesday (December 10), the DHC-8-402Q Ethiopian Airlines plane with a flight number ET357 experienced the excursion during take off.
“The left-hand main landing gear collapsed and no.1 propeller blades shattered, puncturing the fuselage,” said Aviation Safety Network.
The plane is damaged but all passengers were evacuated safely. The plane was carrying 21 passengers.
The Kenyan Aviator @kenyanaviator Tweeted :
“An Ethiopian Airlines DHC8-Q402 ran off the runway at Juba International Airport this evening. All passengers have been evacuated and no injuries reported so far. Aircraft has sustained damage, and all landings into Juba are made via the unorthrodox runway 31”
What is known at this time is that the weather was windy and rainy during take off.
Juba Airport General Manager, Kur Kuol Ajieu, told Radio Tamazuj that “The plane slid off the runway while taking off due to bad weather conditions in Juba at around 6:30 pm, so I want to tell the public that the aircraft did not crash.”
Ethiopian Airlines is yet to issue an official statement the incident at Juba Airport.
