Elias Melka, a musician, songwriter, and composer reportedly passed away. The news came as a shock to Ethiopians who are familiar with his work.
He had been taking medications for Diabetic and Kidney problems, and he passed away in hospital overnight in Addis Ababa.
He was also a judge at Fana Lamrot talent show and was part of last week’s show, Fana Broadcasting Corporation (FBC) reported on Saturday.
A graduate of Yared Music School in the capital Addis Ababa, he used to play Guitar and Piano as well.
According to a report by FBC, Elias has worked in Medina band where he played along with his instructors from Music school like Aklilu Zewde, Ezra Abate and Yared Tefera. Then after, he worked with Zema, Lastasna and Sound bands.
Those who seem to know much about his work say that his contribution to contemporary Ethiopian music is immense. He has composed more than 40 Albums.
And he has worked with prominent Ethiopian singers including Teddy Afro, Michel Belayneh, Alemayehu Eshete, and Mahmood Ahmed, among others.
Details of funeral arrangements are not disclosed.
