A devastating fire raged through Akaki Market in Akaki sub-city South of Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa, state media Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC) reported on Monday citing the city’s fire management commission.

The fire incident happened overnight, and property worth 60 million Ethiopian birr is destroyed.  Fire authorities also claim that it was possible to save property worth 200 million Ethiopian birr.

EBC added that no human casualty is reported.

Emergency response director in the Fire Management Commission, Wondemagne Assaye, told EBC firefighters in the commission and community members joined hands to bring it under control.

15 fire trucks, two ambulances, and five water tanker trucks, among other things, were mobilized and deployed to the scene.

The state media did not report regarding the cause of the fire and/or if an investigation is underway to determine it.
